The country house at La Cienega Hacienda was built in 1580. It has hosted many famous people due to its proximity to Pichincha and Cotopaxi. During the 18th century there was a lot of geological activity in the area. There were frequent and devestating earthquakes from 1687 to 1757. The final one completely demolished the city of Latacunga. La Cienega was undamaged and there are several possible explanations; one is that it is built on swampy area which cushioned the house and prevented damage, another is the 2 meter thick walls. Finally there is the family belief that the Virgin of the Rosary has intervened on behalf of the edifice.

It is worth making a trip to Ecuador just to stay in this magnificent hacienda.
we were very lucky to stay there :D some people say that hacienda is haunted and you can see ghosts and hear some weird things ... however I've stayed there a couple of times and didn't see or hear anything ... Thank God!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have spent more than one night here. It is the most awesome place I have ever stayed.
