December 20 - Chanchan Riverbed to Shuar Community

This is the beginning of the last train day.  We set out going along the Chanchan riverbed.

We are traveling from the mountains down to the coast. 

Here is some erosion controlled by making sandbag drainage ditches.

Our first stop of the day is to visit the Shuar Community and find out about their culture.  We drank chicha, which we were assured had not been masticated by the women for our enjoyment.  We were greeted by the elder.  We were blessed by a shamen which was an elderly cigar smoking woman who shook a bunch of wet plants at us.  We saw a dance which is the theme of the pictures below.
